Benin princess helps orphans to showcase talents

Published:

A princess of the Benin royal family, Ebuwa Charles-Igiehon, has partnered with Lancelot Imasuen’s Benin Film Academy to give opportunities to children in orphanages to showcase their talents. The talent hunt is an initiative of the Princess Ebuwa’s King Heart Advocacy for Women and Children Foundation.

The inaugural edition of the talent hunt which was held recently was tagged Orphans Talent Plus. It saw several underprivileged children from different orphanages showcase their untapped talents in singing, acting, dancing and fashion.

At the end of the two-day talent hunt, Favour Okoro and Praise Lucky, both of Tender Heart Orphanage and Charity Home, emerged winners in the singing and dancing categories respectively, while Abundance Abraham of Felicia Lily Orphanage Home won in the drama category. They all smiled home with cash prizes of N50,000, N30,000 and N20,000 for first, second and third positions.

Speaking on what inspired the project, Ebuwa said that the talent hunt was designed as a yearly programme where orphans would be given the opportunity to showcase their talents. She said, “Several children in orphanages rarely have the opportunity to showcase whatever talent they were born with. So, most times, their talents die with them. That is what we want to reverse.”
